Goal Setting with God in mind

Creating a Vision for my Walk with God

“And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon the tables, that he may run that readeth it. Habakkuk 2:2

There is a line in a song from South Pacific that got me re-thinking about goal setting. It goes, “Got to have a dream. If you don’t have a dream. How you gonna make a dream come true?” Makes sense, doesn’t it. You have to have goals, make them visual so they are easily remembered. You also need to reflect on them, write about how one or more are reached and set new goals. I had not done that since retiring in 2015.

Recently, I attended a women’s vision building fellowship. We spent the day defining, working on and encouraging each other to build a personal statement of goals that reflect God’s Word in our lives. At the fellowship I worked on my personal vision board. I wanted to look at inspiring phrases, pictures from nature that delight me, and my goals. So I did. Later I would define goals.

The teacher inspired us with, “Believe for the impossible.” Her biblical reference was Matthew 19:26. We talked about ways we can resist the adversary in our daily lives, and how that can be a part of your goals. Later, with reflection from our fellowship, goals emerged as I thought, prayed, and listened quietly to the Father. My one reoccurring thought was, “What has God asked me to do?” Finally, five goals emerged. I wrote them on cards and attached them to my vision board. I didn’t stop there.

Matthew 19:26: But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Goals can remain unobtainable and overwhelming if you let them stay as “out there somewhere ideas.” You have to make them personal and relevant to your personal life. I did this first, by taking each goal and teasing out two more layers of details. The first layer, my objectives, contains what things I want complete or learn or do. Then for each objective, I developed action statements. Things I can do each day to run my race and win. I asked myself these questions, When I am listening to God, what am I doing? Or What am I thinking? Answering them, helped me visualize my actions. When I visualize it, I can achieve it. Finally, I found appropriate verses to memorize and remind me of God’s promises. Second, I carry my goals with me. I have my board to see and inspire me every day. I know that working daily on them will help me attain them.

Here is my goal to listen expanded as an example of filling in the details.

Goal: Listen more effectively

Deuteronomy 29:4: Yet the Lord hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.

Matthew 11:15: He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

James 1:19: Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

Objective: Listen to and for God

  • Actions:
  • Pray perfectly and often
  • Stop and reflect quietly
  • Read and study the Word

Verses:1 Kings 19:11-12: And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

Ephesians 6:18: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

1 Thessalonians 5:17: Pray without ceasing.

2 Timothy 2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth

Objective: Listen to my husband

  • Actions:
  • Finish speaking and then be quiet as he speaks
  • Ask questions, then be quiet as he speaks

Actively listen to his speaking and non-verbal communication, not rushing or interrupting him

Verses: Ephesians 5:22-23: Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

Objective: Listen to others

  • Actions:
  • Greet, and then listen to what others have to say
  • In conversations, listen actively, not thinking about what I want to say.
  • Don’t interrupt.
  • Slow down, and not rush the conversation along with my own personal agenda.
  • Minimize projecting my behaviors, actions and skills on others.

Verse: Ephesians 4:32: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.Ephesians 5:21: Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

Objective: Listen to my body

  • Actions:
  • Slow down and take stock of what I am feeling throughout the day.
  • Pause before making eating choices
  • Reflect on daily, weekly and monthly choices in activities, eating and health.

Verse: James 1:12: Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Take it! Claim your Healing

Winter has arrived in Florida. Some of us are getting a little frost on our tropical plants and some of us have covered plants with sheets and others brought the most delicate ones into our patios and lanai’s. In our home this past Wednesday, we were warm in the Lord and taught about five healing realities that are ours to TAKE. Click here for the complete healing teaching. Those five realities are described further. They are: The Word, Communion, Prayer, New Birth and Gifts of Healing. Remember that we are already healed according to what the Bible says in,

I Peter 2:24, Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. AND

Isaiah 53:5

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

When something is said twice, it is established. We are and were healed by the works of Jesus Christ. We are healing and have the power to heal others. Lets get busy, making the healing realities a part of our everyday lives! Check out our page on Preaching, Teaching and Healing page for more teachings.

Grace is the Source of…

Thursday December 14, 2017 Christine taught on Grace. Charis is the Greek word for grace. She shared many forms of charis and their meanings. John 1:17 was our starting verse, For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. She also showed us that grace is the course of many things including salvation, Acts 15:11; believing, Acts 18:27  ; and justification, Romans 3:24. She also described grace and how grace relates to believers. Her teaching is posted on our webpage: Preach, Teach and Heal.

Grace and Truth Came by Jesus Christ

This past week we moved our bible fellowship to Wednesdays. We were missing too many Thursday evenings to other commitments. We gathered around our table and shared again on Grace. This time, a teaching Rick prepared a few years ago, and hadn’t yet taught it. It is uploaded on our Fellowship page, scroll down to the new uploaded teaching. Our evening was filled with the Word and how in John 1:17, It is explained that The law was given by Moses but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. Rick also taught about how Jesus Christ is not God and how the first part of John 1 explains that. When John wrote this Gospel in about 90 A.D., people were already mistaking the Messiah for God. After fellowship, we made chai lattes, shared sweets and best wishes for the upcoming Holidays. Bless you and keep you as you travel to visit family or family comes to you. Check out our page Teach, Preach and Heal for this teaching and more.

Blog for December 3, 2017 – Grace

This past Sunday, we had an open fellowship at our home. More than 20 believers gathered to hear the Word taught by Rev. Rico Magnelli. He taught on Moving Ahead with Grace. He said that Grace from God is like the air we breath. It is all around us all the time, everywhere! God offers grace to those who believe on Him. God does it out of love for his children, it is not something we work to attain. Rico highlighted three men from the Bible who received Grace from God. The three men were Noah in Genesis 6:5-7; Jesus Christ in Luke 1:30 and 2:40; and Paul in Philippians 3:13 and 14, and I Corinthians 15. Rico said, Grace allows you to move forward in your life, like a gentle breeze moving across your path. We have more to learn about Grace in our Bible Fellowship.

After the teaching, we enjoyed sweet and savory snacks, walking in the garden and sweet fellowship with fellow believers. Here are some pictures from our day together.

Blog for November 9, 2017 Our Righteousness

What an evening of delighting in the Word of God. We discussed our Righteousness from God’s perspective. How He sees us as his sons and daughters. God has said in His Word, in Romans 10:10 the with our heart we believe unto righteousness.

Romans 10:10, from the Message Bible says,

10 With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: “God has set everything right between him and me!”

God has made things right. He does not concern himself with our sins. Nor should we, dwell on them and condemn ourselves over and over again. In fact, they are cast as far is the east is from the west as it says in Psalm 103:8-12.

Here again from the Message Bible

8 God is sheer mercy and grace; not easily angered, he’s rich in love.9 He doesn’t endlessly nag and scold, nor hold grudges forever.10 He doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve, nor pay us back in full for our wrongs.11 As high as heaven is over the earth, so strong is his love to those who fear him.12 And as far as sunrise is from sunset, he has separated us from our sins.

God’s Word always has examples we can follow and learn how to embrace our Righteousness. This teaching followed Abram to Abraham and 25 years of his life. Abram heard the promise from God that he would become the father of many nations. He had to follow God’s promises. Abram decided to follow his own ideas. It took 25 years for Abraham to get it right, give birth to Issac and moved into the promised land.

We need to keep walking with our Father. God gave us two examples of people to walk in their footsteps, Jesus Christ and Abraham. We walk like Abraham, we make mistakes, we move on. God is not looking at our mistake. He gave us righteousness.

Bless you

Blog for October 19, 2017: Beach Event – Let Your Light So Shine!

We met this morning at the Delnor-Wiggens Pass State Park in Collier County. It was the perfect day to spend a morning with fellow believers at the beach, sunny, windy, cool water. Our lone fisherman had plenty of thinking time as the fish were not biting. We had prayers, manifestations, food, swimming, beach combing, and sharing on how we let our light so shine.

Hurricane Irma and its aftereffects have been on all our hearts. Our homes and gardens have needed repair. There is need everywhere in our physical world. It is good that we can step aside from all of our schedules, to take time to enjoy the beaches that God so brilliantly provided for us.

We can take the time to listen quietly to the waves, jump in the water with others, and speak God’s Word. For me, I like to walk slowly along the flotsam of the high tide line looking for small shells. I use them in crafts and to remind me of beach visits.

Sometimes in those quiet moments, we are reminded how large our God is and how He looks after us. How did my light shine? I got to shine in listening to others today.
